Forum: texts Subject: Attn to the Webmaster: Cannot download ALL PDF digitized by Google

Hi,

I would like to inform you that the PDF of the book "St. Vincent Ferrer, his life, spiritual teaching, and practical devotion" by T. A. Dixon, "Ninety-nine Homilies" by St Thomas Aquinas and a couple of other books which is digitized by Google and uploaded to the Archive by user "tpb" is NOT downloadable. It says in the menu at the left of the details page of the books "PDF on Google.com", but when I go to that Google page being already a member of Google Book Search, there is NO link to download the PDF. As far as I know, these books are no longer copyrighted but still they couldn't be downloaded. I think you should provide links of your own rather than depend on Google's.

The following are some of the books, but there are many others:

Please help us with this. Thanks.

There are tons of books at Google which are not downloadable OUTSIDE THE USA. In Archive you can download them by opening the flip book, then go to "print", then go to "pdf" or "djvu".
When I have recently uploaded books, Archive has created a direct link to the PDF. Probably because they have become aware of the problem you describe.
While in the USA books before 1923 or so can be downloaded from Google, they block books after 1860 or so outside the USA. Don't ask me why. There are ways to get them anyway. (http://archiv.twoday.net/stories/4748288/ is an article in German about this.) Use a proxy in the USA, for example from http://fall.cs.princeton.edu/codeen/ or http://www.proxy4free.com/ . This is sometimes tedious however. I get best results using the download manager DownThemAll.
So please, dear all, download especially these books from Google and upload them in Archive so that they are preserved for the future and accessible to everyone!
Connected to this is my post
http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=247175
where I suggest that in the uploading process the fields "title", "author" and "year" are always to be filled in. Especially uploads from user tpb have incomplete data (title incomplete, volume number missing, author name missing).

There is a copy of the PDF on Internet Archive. Click on the "HTTP" link.
